Announcing the 2009 Winners!

Stephen Waarts on violin, performing Glazunov: Violin Concerto in A minor, Op.82, 1st and 4th Movements: Moderato and Allegro. With judges comments such as “heartfelt, vulnerable…I stopped noticing his playing…what soul!” Stephen out-distanced the amazing field of performers in the Youth Division for top honors. Stephen won $1,500 prize money and will also be invited to perform at the Festival del Sole at the Jarvis Conservatory in Napa, Sunday, July 19.

Stephen Waarts is 12 years old and from Los Altos. He began his violin studies at age 5 and piano studies at age 8. He has played in Carnegie Hall and is invited to play in a June festival in Moscow. Since April of 2008, he’s played 5 different concertos with 5 different orchestras!
